Portland Garment Factory

26 Oct

I had the honor of being asked to model for Portland Garment Factory‘s launch of HouseLine. Britt Howard and Rosemary Robinson know how to produce a quality crafted garment from start to finish. Pair this with their killer sense of style and you have a HouseLine, woman’s basics (aka the must haves) with a splash of trendsetting pieces.

Photographer Amanda Smith was on the scene and caught some great backstage moments (the legs!) and the runway show from start to finish. Check out her pictures here!

Happy Birthday Heart Roasters!

20 Oct

Being a NE-ster who enjoys the company of many SE-sters, Heart is the perfect meeting place. Delicious coffee, roasted in house, delightful staff (truly, I love them all!), great music selections, appealing and comfortable atmosphere… and gluten free baklava muffins! Today is Hearts 2 year anniversary and to celebrate they are throwing an all day party! Come and enjoy celebratory beverages (hint hint), killer jams from in house DJ Katherine Zimmer, and the company of your fellow lovers of Heart!!

Lauretta Jeans’ Brick and Mortar!!

13 Sep

Today, Portland pie lovers have a place to call heaven: Lauretta Jean’s pie shop at 600 SW Pine St.. You may have tasted Kate McMillen’s perfect pie confections at the Saturday PSU Farmers Market, but if you are not in the know, this woman makes the best pie…ever. Her butter crusts are unreal and chocolate cream pie sliders are straight TROUBLE! While the summer days last, enjoy a slice of pie (on a fancy plate) and cup of Stumptown joe in their patio seating, otherwise this tiny spot of goodness is take out only. Open Monday through Friday, 7am to 3pm.

Woodsman Tavern and DJ Safi (unrelated)

12 Sep

Last Wednesday I had the pleasure of attending the Motley Cue event hosted by Musicfest NW and Whole Foods. Nina Lary and I mingled and sampled the BBQ offerings of the five, mega talented chefs, Jason Barwikowski of Woodsman Tavern, Tommy Habetz of Bunk Sandwiches, Han Ly Hwang of Bhap Sang PDX (formerly Kim Jon Grillin), Naomi Pomeroy of Beast, and Carolynn Spence of Chateau Martmont.

That night Nina and I ate a lot of good meat, but the stand out item was the lemongrass pork on a stick, served with a quick carrot pickle from Jason Barwikowski, who in October will be opening the much anticipated Woodsman Tavern. Not only is Jason a super rad dude, but he is  damn fine chef and there is gonna be nothin, but good vibes and killer food at the Woodsman.

Evan Zimmerman and Jason Barwikowski, the bad boiz of Woodsman Tavern

Throughout the shit shootin, food eating and beverage drinking, I kept finding the need to move my body or sing along to the awesome jams provided by DJ Safi. That woman has musical taste that rivals Rob Gordon, topped off with a healthy dose of Afro Beat. This Friday she will be playing a set of 60’s Congolese and Calypso beats at Dig A Pony that you don’t want to miss.

LUCE!

8 Sep

Let there be light! Luce, baby sister to Navarre and Una is open!! Serving delicious Italian food for lunch and dinner, Wednesday through Sunday 11am to 10pm. I have had the pleasure of working with Owners John and Giovanna for events and now in the restaurant and I am really excited to be a part of the Luce family. John Willis has created a menu that travels the regional tastes of Italy that includes handmade pastas and a variety of antipasti’s such as cardoons and olives in oil and polpettes. Should you be looking for something to take home, we offer a range of imported delights (pastas, olive oils, vinegars, jams, etc.), antipasti in bulk, italian sweets, and handmade kitchen items. We also do catering and rent out the adjoining space for events. Please forgive my blatant promotion, I am just so excited!! Come say hi!!!
