Kevin Nimick on Zola Jesus

2 May
Here’s the thing, I’m totally interested in Zola Jesus but I know nothing about her or her music. So I asked my goth friend (well sort of) Kevin Nimick. He got me amped –  this is what he said:
“As a long time closet goth / industrial kid with a disposition towards subculture nostalgia, stumbling across Zola Jesus’s “poor animal” track last fall had me tripping! That jam slays soo much ass, and it’s been awesome to see a legitimate resurgance in hip music’s dabbling into the dark side without going metal.
There’s such an interesting juggling act in this trending realm because there are hyper goth snobs, the oblivious mainstream, and straight up clowner / haters on three sides. Regardless of consideration, and as a relative newcomer, homegirl’s music has been apeasing most who hear it. Coupled with the potential influence of all the epic acts she’s been touring with over the last year and a half, her evolution should surely solidify her a seat in the current dark music court, while Darth Vadering the rest of the more generic alternative music scene into the shadows.” KN
Check out Zola Jesus at Holocene on May 5th! Details here.
