Basement Tapes

8 Dec

As a dabbler in vinyl junky-ism, I found a little spot that quickened my heartbeat: Basement Tapes. Emily, Colin and Joanna Anderson (sister, brother and wife) have embraced Portland’s unconventional entrepreneurial spirit by turning their basement into a treasure shop. Primarily records, tapes and vhs (the core of which is from Colin’s personal collection), Basement Tapes also offers clothing, accessories, chachkis and audio equipment, all sourced by the trio’s discerning eyes (and ears).

There is a listening station for the records and all the records are $10 or less. I had intended to take some photos of the shop, but got too excited about the vinyl and totally forgot. I did buy Syd Barrett “Syd Barrett” (a double-album pairing of Syd Barrett’s two solo albums, The Madcap Laughs and Barrett ) for $10, Horace Andy “Sings for You and I” for $7 and Bonnie Prince Billy “I See a Darkness” for $6. So Stoked!!

Open Friday through Sunday 12 to 7 and you don’t need a secret password, but you do have to go in the back door.
